Year 6 Weekly Review (5.12.24)

Morning everybody! We are now just 2 weeks away from the Christmas holidays - where does the time go?! As always, here is a look back at the week, as well as an overview of the upcoming 2 weeks before the holidays!

Christmas Hoops: This week, the children completed their annual Christmas hoops which are displayed in both halls. Of course we are biased but we believe that our hoops look even more incredible than all the other classes superb efforts! A shout out to Mrs Wood who painted over 500 lollipop sticks to support Oaks Class' efforts!

Arithmetic: We have been looking at subtracting fractions from whole numbers in our arithmetic sessions this week. I have been incredibly impressed with the amount of children accessing the arithmetic videos I have been putting up on Google Classrooms. Those children who are accessing them are making great progress so keep up the great work!

English: In English lesson, we are beginning to study sonnets. This week, the children have been focusing on their purpose, features and meanings.

Maths: In our maths lessons, the children have been looking at multiplication in various forms: 3 digit x 2 digit, 4 digit x 2 and then whole numbers x decimals. If your child is still struggling with this concept, 2 videos will be put on their google classroom page by the end of today to support them.

Before Christmas:

Christmas Dinner & Jumper Day - Wednesday 11th December

Year 6 Boy's Football Match - Monday 16th December

Christmas Assembly - Wednesday 18th December

Last Day Of Term - Friday 20th December

Christmas Activities - TBC

Homework: Well done to all those pupils who have been accessing SATs Companion, Boom Reader and practising their spellings. I know we say it every week, but the link between those working hard on these platforms and those who are making accelerated academic progress is clear to see. Your hard work is paying off! This week's spellings are:

  • overthrow

  • overbalance

  • overturned

  • overcoat

  • overslept

  • overcook

  • overpaid

  • overreact

  • overtired

  • overlooked

We hope you all have a lovely weekend - see you on Monday!
